So DC has had a massive reboot, and all 52 new comics are out. He are some of my first impressions of the books. Not all of them, but a good amount of them. And the question is, did the reboot help?
The Flash- I didn’t care mush for this one, not bad, but not great. Nothing really happened. Rating- meh
Captain Atom- Same as the flash. Nothing about it makes me want to continue. Rating- meh
Green Arrow- Yet again, this one wasn’t great. At least it had some decent action, but it just seemed pointless. Rgreat here either. Rating- meh
Mister Terrific- It wasn’t terrific, but it was good. We got back-story, a mystery, and a great cliffhanger. This series has potential, but we’ll see. Rating-hmmm
DC Universe Presents- This one was pretty good, and was centered on Deadman. I really like Deadman, so seeing how he’s actually being featured more is nice. A solid book. Rating- good
Batman- In this reboot, they’re are 4, yes 4 different Batman comics (Not spin-off characters), and this is the one I’d recommend. Scott Snyder knows batman, and the writing is really good. The mystery good, and the art good as well. This is one of the best of the relaunches. Rating- great
Detective Comics- not as good as Batman in anyway. Not bad, but no reason for it. Rating- meh
Batman: The Dark Knight-pointless. Completely. Rating- Pointless
Batgirl- Suffers from a few cliches, but Gail Simone is a really good writer, and it shows. Being someone who has always liked Oracle, I’m kind of disappointed that Barbara Gordan has went back to Batgirl. Still, a really good start, which I have high hopes for. Rating- great
Nightwing- Dick Grayson is one of my favorite DC characters, only surpassed by Bruce Wayne himself. Seeing him finally get his own comic as Nightwing and not Batman is nice. While this issue wasn’t amazing, it was pretty good. If you like Grayson, you’ll like this. Rating- good.
Green Lantern Corps- This was actually pretty good, but I’m not a big green lantern fan. Rating- hmm…
Green Lantern: New Guardians- didn’t care for it. Rating-meh
Static Shock- Static shock was mostly just set-up, but it was pretty good. It introduces the characters, and sets up the plot, and overall is pretty good. Rating-good
Blue Beetle- I like blue beetle a lot, but this issue wasn’t that great. It did set stuff up, but that’s it. No action or anything. The story does have some great potential, but thus just didn’t cut it. Rating- hmmm…
Grifter- Confusing, and not that great. Rating – meh
Deathstroke – just stupid. Rating- bleh
All-Star Western- If all you know about Jonah Hex is the crappy movie, you should get this so you can see just how awesome he really is. This is probably My favorite book of the new 52. Hex gets hired to solve a crime in the newly created town Gotham, and it’s really great. He’s a cowboy Batman. Rating- Amazing.
Justice League Dark- Weird. I like where it’s going, but this issue just seemed odd. Rating -weird.
Animal Man- Just look at his name, how good could it be? Answer, really good. I mean it, this book is just really well written. Rating – great
Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. – I don’t know much about DC’s Frankenstein, but this book was good. It didn’t take itself to seriously, but at the same time, it had a good plot and the characters aren’t bad. Rating- good
I, Vampire- Boring. Before you accuse it of being like twilight, it’s not, so don’t. It’s just boring, but I like the Art style. And it looks like the plot may go somewhere. Might. Rating- boring.
Resurrection Man- Mitch Shelly won’t stay dead. Every-time he dies, he comes back to life with new powers. His soul is wanted apparently wanted by angels, and demons. Yes, everyone wants him dead for good. This book is going places, and I like it. With a gritty art style, a good protagonist, and a good plot, we have a winner. Rating – Great
So The Reboot has some good, some bad, and some terrible. We’ll see where it goes from here.
